RESTAURANT REVIEW. Located in the east of Jersey, the Castle Green Gastro Pub is opposite Mont Orgueil Castle and as it nestles into the hillside, offers diners panoramic views of the Royal Bay of Grouville.
Upon entering the restaurant you feel like you’ve ‘come home’. The interior is decorated very invitingly, with wood panels and a fire as a centrepiece, which serves a vital purpose in the winter. The best tables undoubtedly are those adjacent to the big windows that overlook the castle and the bay. Book early to ensure you reserve these.
On a Wednesday night in spring it was certainly busy, which might have been why service was a little on the slow side. Both the menu and wine lists were extensive. Local sustainable ingredients feature heavily on the menu that is largely modern European. We ordered a plate of sushi and sashimi for starter and pork belly with black pudding, sausage and mash and scallop and crab risotto with sauce vierge for mains.
Both were absolutely delicious - good hearty, warming meals. Too full for dessert, although there were many delights on the menu. It’s a nice place for either a romantic meal or for a family Sunday lunch.
