He is one of the dwindling band of Italian catering professionals that over the years have provided so much atmosphere and colour in Jersey restaurant life. Even if you have never met him before, his charm and professionalism, and the faultless service, makes him a friend – and the restaurant a welcome haven – before many minutes have passed.
The menu is continental Franco-Italian, with pasta, things like osso bucco and saltimbocca well to the fore, and an extensive special menu of fish.
The quality of the food and ambiance makes up for the rather dark and tired furnishings and for the location of the restaurant, an entrance tucked away between two shop doorways and up a flight of stairs on the first floor.
But a good place for a quiet lunch, and if you have something to discuss that makes you linger over the coffee, there is no hassling you to get up and out.
If only more restaurants in Jersey were like this!
