Foodfrom 10.05 to 10.10.2010Longueville Manor, Jersey, Channel Islands RESTAURANT REVIEW. Steeped in history, this recently refurbished 14th century AA 5 Star Manor House offers an altogether more refined dining experience.
The exceptional service begins as soon as you walk through the door, where several staff compete to welcome you.
Dining in the 16th Century Oak Room is both magical and majestic and despite its grandeur, is perfect for an intimate meal. Spanish oak beams hug the ceiling and walls and the smell of worn leather seats is a perfect accompaniment to the meal.
Eating at lunchtime, an à la carte and a reasonable (given the setting and quality of food) set menu are available to choose from. Even the set menu is varied and interesting, and the majority of dishes are cooked French style with local produce. Game featured heavily as well as fish.
Although a fine dining experience, portions are healthy and bursting with home cooked qualities. Staff continued to be attentive throughout, if a little too much - although it was a quiet Tuesday afternoon.
The wine list appeared novel-like and included some of the best from around the world - ranging from very expensive (thousands of pounds) to those more reasonably priced.
After lunch, tea and petit fours were served in the solace of the main drawing room nestled in front of a roaring fire, which on a chilly day was the perfect end to the meal.
Lunch for two: (set menu)
Foie Gras and Sauternes and Chicken in Bacon stuffed with polenta
Asparagus with truffle sauce and Roasted salmon with Mediterranean vegetables: £70
Elegant, austere setting, providing a special dining experience.
